Impious - Entrevista

1 – Since the beginning of the band you released albums in 3 different labels. This is already the second record with Metal Blade Records. Are your relations with the label strong and did you finally found a steady home in MB?
Yeah, finally we’ve found a steady home. Metal Blade has treated us really well and we have nothing bad to say about them so far.

2 – This new album “Holy murder masquerade” is a conceptual record. What can you tell me about the lyrical concept behind this record?
The story is about this guy, Trent, who is a true servant of God. At least according to his own sick mind. He’s soon to complete his work and the listener/reader gets to follow him as he arrives at his final destination. There are a lot of deaths, violence, blood, etc, etc.. It’s a brutal story indeed.
-
3 – My promo-CD also includes the booklet and it has a cartoon and I suppose this cartoon is based on the lyrical concept. How did you came up with the idea of doing a cartoon to include in the booklet instead of the lyrics? Who was responsible for the cartoons / drawings?
I think you have misunderstood the whole point. All the texts in the comic/cartoon are the actual lyrics. When the listener is following the lyrics in the booklet while listening to the album, he can also visually see the story. Andrea Cavaletto is the man who did the illustrations. He’s a horror comic artist from Italy.
-
4 – This new record is way more melodic and Thrash oriented than the previous albums, which were more into melodic Death Metal. Did it just came out like this or were you trying to write groovier / mid-tempo songs to follow the lyrical concept?
We didn’t really change anything on purpose. We only had one goal, and that was to make the new album more memorable, especially the choruses. We love when the crowd is singing along on concerts, and I think we made it easier for them on this album… haha.
-
5 – The cover artwork is simple but mysterious. What is the meaning of the frontcover design and who drew it?
The cover is done by an American guy called Justin Kamerer. He’s known for doing covers, posters and t-shirt designs for bands like Slayer, Mudvane, Slipknot, Black Sabbath, etc, etc.He wanted to do a collage based on elements from the story and the title of the album. So he ended with lots of religious symbols, a mask, a knife, and so on. The end result is pretty damn cool I think.
-
6 – Why did you decided to record the album in your own studio (Studio Deadline)?
Because then we don’t have to take free from our jobs and all that. We can record during weekends and evenings, and instead put more time into touring.
-
7 – There’s a guest appearance of Lord Belial’s Thomas Backelin in the title track. How did this ended up doing this guest appearance and how do you find the final result?
We just simply felt that this track needed some scary and screaming vocals. Since Thomas is a friend, and he lives in the same little town, we called him. I think the end result is really cool and it has a special and scary vibe.
-
8 – Are you satisfied with this new album, the songs, the recording process, production, final product?
Of course there are some things we wish we would have done different, but that’s normal. All in all we are very proud!
-
9 – Do you have a tour prepared to promote the record?
Right now nothing is confirmed. Only a gig in our hometown and a festival in France. But I think we’ll tour Europe and Japan before the summer.
-
10 – You can leave now a final message if you want to.
Thanx for the support. Make sure to check out Holy Murder Masquerade! Come and see us on tour and take a few beers with us.
