1 – This debut album “Raw Dark Pure” was released through your own label Sovereignity Productions but now it’s being re-released by Metal Blade Records. How did you ended up signing with them?
We had big problems in promoting the album ourselves and also could not find a distribution partner to work with. Just when we were thinking of how we could get the album the attention it deserved Metal Blade called us. They somehow got a copy of “raw dark pure” which was strange for us since we did not send any promos to any labels. Well to cut a long story short, they were amazed by the album and offered us a deal right away. We had big discussions inside the band and also with the Metal Blade staff since we needed to make sure to have absolute degree of freedom in all creative issues. They included everything we wanted to the contract so we signed.
2 – Are you satisfied with this new album, the songs, the recording process, production, final product?
Absolutely. Only the recording process sucked pretty much. The recordings endured over one year for diverse reasons and we also faced many technical issues since this was the first real big production we did in our studio. But when I listen to the album now I know that it was worth every fucking minute in the studio.
3 – Your approach to Black Metal is similar to the early Satyricon, and we can even read in the MB website “Sonic Reign pick up were Satyricon left off after Rebel Extravaganza“. Are you ok with this kind of comparisons?
Labels and fans need comparisons, especially when a previously unknown band such as Sonic Reign is promoted. That is ok for me although I think we have a lot more to offer than just a Satyricon influence. Everyone listening to “Raw Dark Pure” will agree to that.
4 – What kind of subjects influenced you to write the lyrics for “Raw Dark Pure”?
I am influenced by what's happening in the world, by what lies behind the masks we're all wearing, by what drives us to act as we act and by the vast field of existentialism. I don't like fantasy lyrics, I am not interested in a “reality” that has nothing to do with the reality we're all living in.
5 – Do you have a tour prepared to promote the record?
No. We don't have the time for such an undertaking. It is not easy to find the time to rehearse with Sonic Reign, so we can't waste it on touring, we keep creating music, that is much more interesting for us right now.
6 – You can leave now a final message if you want to.
Thank you very much for the support. Cheers go out to our fans. We salute you!
