Neaera - Interview

Neaera (meaning of the name, short bio, discography, highlights, …):
Neaera is a whore in Greek History. She was slaved and gained her freedom after a while. That’s the short version.
We chose the name because it looks cool and the dramatic story behind it is a good background for our critical lyrics and brutal sound.
We founded in 2003 and released 3 albums. The Rising Tide Of Oblivion, Let The Tempest Come, Armamentarium.
We did a lot of shows and tours within the last three years. We toured with Bands like As I Lay Dying, Kataklysm or Caliban and played some cool festivals like Wacken and With Full Force.
-
“Armamentarium” (rehearsing / writing process, recording process, label, …):
We wrote the album within a couple of months. The songs are written by the two guitarists Tobi and Stefan and the drummer Sebastian. We usually meet in the rehearsal room once a week and jam around with some ideas the guitarists come up with.
The lyrics are written by our singer Benny, Stefan and Benjamin our bass player.
We recorded Armamentarium again in the Danish Hansen Studios.
Jacob the producer did a great job on our last Album, so we decided to work with him again. Benny our singer recorded the voice together with our friend Ali Dietz from Heaven Shall Burn in the Rape of Harmonies Studios in Germany.
This is our third album on Metal Blade records.
-
Lyrics (influences, subjects, ideas, messages, …):
The lyrics criticize mostly social and political aspects of the world today.
We have also a few personal texts dealing with inner conflicts and grief and the individual problems of our time.
-
Album frontcover / artwork (who, why, meaning, …):
The entire artwork and cover was done by the great Norwegian artist Terje.
It expresses the social isolation of the individual. A topic stressed for example in the Title Track Armamentarium.
-
Live tour to promote the new record:
We already did a German and south European tour to play the new songs and promote the new album. Both went great and showed us the live potential of the new songs.
It`s amazing to see that after such a short while people sing along with the new stuff.
Musical (and other) influences:
-
On Armamentarium we decided to slow down the tempo a bit and add more groove.
I think Bolt Thrower or Morbid Angel was an important influence on that one.
-
Metalcore / Deathcore. Your opinion:
Decide yourselves! I don`t know. Is this important? And ain`t that the same?
-
Final Message:
Thanks for your interest. Stay brutal!
